Statement by the World Liberty Congress on the Arrest and Persecution of Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza

The World Liberty Congress (WLC) strongly denounces the renewed persecution of Rwandan opposition leader Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, who was arrested following a politically motivated directive after appearing in court as a witness in a case involving peaceful civic actions like reading Blueprint for Revolution and attending online trainings. This arrest marks a continuation of the Rwandan government’s long-standing repression against Ingabire, who previously spent eight years in prison for her political activism. The WLC calls for her immediate release, the end of politically motivated prosecutions, and adherence to international human rights obligations. This crackdown is seen not only as a personal attack on Ingabire but as a threat to democracy in Rwanda.
